It is now half a century since SUYS started the production of profiles for roller shutters. Soon after, the range was expanded to include finished roller shutters and later also solar screens. So the Belgian manufacturer has been practicing craftsmanship for a while! The basic foundation of the company still lies in profiling and extruding slats for roller shutters and cabinet profiles. So they can honestly say that SUYS makes everything from A to Z in Nokere.
The shading industry never stands still. At SUYS too, they are constantly methodically seeking innovation and improvement. The company has extensive expertise and technologies to implement efficient developments. "A precious process," agrees CEO Thibaut SUYS, "which ultimately forms the foundation of our entire production and commercialization."
The production process starts at SUYS with the manufacture of cabinets and shutter slats. This in-house production makes the company unique. "The fact that we control this ourselves obviously gives us an edge, including in terms of quality and flexibility," says Thibaut Suys.
Two different forming techniques are used. In extrusion, molten granules are passed through a die to form a particular type of slat. In profiling, aluminum strip is made into a slat or cabinet by roll forming. An impressive machine park runs around the clock to produce more than twenty(!) types of slats as well as cabinets in all possible sizes and shapes. A fun fact: approximately 40,000 km of roller shutter slats are produced per year, which roughly corresponds to the circumference of the earth. Screens obviously require awning fabrics, and these too are made in our own workshop and according to Thibaut Suys using a unique process.
SUYS has a fully automated powder coating facility, which allows any order to be finished in the desired color. "Our state-of-the-art paint shop excels in flexibility and sustainability," Suys believes. "The innovative water treatment system, the filtering and reuse of powder and the low-energy ovens characterize the ecological process. At the same time, this plant guarantees a solid and sustainable end result."
For many players in the blinds market, the process begins with assembly. In-house production of slats and cabinets is exceptional. For SUYS, assembly is precisely the last link in the entire production process. For shutters and screens, SUYS has separate production lines at its plant in Nokere, but the assembly process is similar. At the first work station, everything is sawn to the right dimensions: shafts, profiles, cabinets, slats... Then the pre-assembly can get to work, for example to work out the cable outlet and fix the shaft, in preparation for a smooth final assembly. Then the screen or shutter is fully assembled and set up, after which the finished product is checked and tested before going to the packaging department.
SUYS also provides its own transportation to customers. "Own drivers offer a flexibility and customer-friendliness that you don't find with transport companies," Thibaut Suys explains further. "Something our loyal customers really appreciate."
"Made in Belgium from start to finish, which in our industry equals quality products," concludes Thibaut Suys. "We have been in the business for 50 years, which can count. People who know their metier and the industry by heart, that's craftsmanship and passion at its best. Many have been working here for decades. Our slogan 'It's all about passion' reflects those years of expertise, the highest quality standards, our dedicated experts and our very Belgian products. At SUYS, we live up to the promise of home-grown products in all sincerity. From development to transportation, and all the crucial steps in between!"
