Scoop at EquipBaie and BAU 2019

Roma launches zipSCREEN.2 with LED lighting

Both at the EquipBaie fair in Paris, and at BAU 2019 in Munich, ROMA has shown the new zipSCREEN.2 with fully integrated LED lighting. In the most complete version, only an additional power cable for the LED lighting comes out of the screen. Otherwise, the zipSCREEN.2 does not differ from the regular version without lighting.

The transformer and io receiver with which the lighting can also be dimmed are integrated into the bottom revision of the screen. For maintenance or repair, they are thus very easily accessible from below. "ROMA has not yet laid an egg about the multitude of possible light colors," said ROMA Benelux director Toon van Osta. "Initial polls among subject matter experts and end users indicate that the whitest light is a must anyway." The possible cabinet sizes of the zipSCREEN.2 with LED lighting are Quadro 130 and 150 mm. The maximum width of 6000 mm that applies to the regular zipSCREEN.2 is also possible for the version with LED lighting.

New glass parapet for French balconies

In combination with exterior blinds and shutters for in- and surface mounting

ROMA has developed a security solution for French balconies, which can be integrated into exterior blinds and roller shutters for interior and exterior use. French balconies are usually secured with a trellis, but ROMA uses a thick glass plate for this purpose. To secure this glass plate, an additional, very thick-walled aluminum guide is placed behind the product guide. For certain sizes and wind loads, this guide is attached with as many as eight screws per meter. The glass pane can be installed after the additional guide and roller shutter or exterior blind - and stucco, if necessary. This also means that the plate can be changed in the event of any damage without having to dismantle shutters or exterior blinds.

Understandably, the security of a French balcony must meet strict security standards and therefore be certified. Even a finishing strip, which is glued to the glass pane with double-sided adhesive tape, must be included. After all, this strip should prevent the glass pane from shattering in the event of an emergency. To keep out insects when the balcony is open, an insect screen can be inserted into the special guide. The minimum gap of 40 mm between the underside of the screen and the top of the glass balustrade is then sealed with a brush.

"With this solution, ROMA has made its shutters and exterior blinds suitable for French balconies and upper doors," Van Osta said. "This has given us an even stronger position for the future!"

ROMA is ready for energy savings

The energy discussion is currently in full swing, not least because the government must pull out all the stops so that the Netherlands can meet the Urgenda targets. "ROMA is ready for the new energy standards (BENG) in 2020," said Toon van Osta. "And also for passive construction, we have all the possibilities to integrate shutters, screens and exterior blinds in new construction or renovation projects." Architects' focus will move toward built-in options as early as 2019, Van Osta predicts. "ROMA already has a lot of experience with this, because recessed installation has been used for many years in homeland Germany and a number of surrounding countries. The Netherlands will really have to catch up here, which Belgium is already doing quite well!"

ROMA (Benelux) will expand

ROMA Benelux has purchased a plot of more than 3,500 m² to expand its facility in Zevenbergen. "You can only buy the neighbor once," said Toon van Osta. "That's why we struck right away! The first designs for expanding our branch with office space, showroom and storage capacity are already ready."

ROMA France is also expanding considerably in Obernai near Strasbourg. A brand new 10,000 m² production hall is being built here. ROMA is forced into this expansion because only products produced in France may be prescribed on the French market. To grow market share in France, expansion is thus necessary.

In Rostock in homeland Germany - as in Zevenbergen - the neighbor has been bought out. The spacious hall where windmills used to be built is already furnished. ROMA had been struggling with a lack of space in Rostock for some time and therefore rented additional company space elsewhere. However, this was not ideal for routing in the factory.

The main plant in Burgau was expanded in mid-2018 with a new 12,000 m² shipping hall and several new halls for the production and assembly of the PURO.2. This freed up the old shipping hall for screen production. A large warehouse, sawing department, an in-house powder coating plant and five ultramodern assembly lines have increased the production capacity to as many as 700 screens per day. For seventeen years now, ROMA Benelux director Toon van Osta has been at ROMA KG in Burgau an average of once a month for meetings and consultations. "Every time I come there, I am again amazed at the innovations and new construction that is constantly taking place. ROMA's 63-year-old director-owner Roland Thoma is investing heavily to make ROMA's explosive growth possible. Being overtaken by his success is something that is not going to happen to this man!"
