At the entrance to the Polyclose fair in Ghent, Unilux was prominently present with a stand that demanded a lot of visitors' attention. Hanneke Harmeling, responsible for marketing and communications, commented, "Even though we were able to present a lot of important product news for the new year, there was actually an even more important message that we conveyed to visitors: 'Protect The Insects'!"
This was immediately put into practice at the fair. She continues: "To convince everyone that really everyone can make a difference, visitors received a badge bearing our wasp and logo. The beautiful side effect? Visitors saw more and more other visitors visibly carrying this important message. After all, these new 'Unilux-red-the-insect ambassadors' were easily recognizable with the badge."
The message, which Unilux has already presented several times in this magazine in previous years, is briefly summarized here: everything in the ecological system is interconnected. For humans, the mosquito is merely an annoying insect that bothers us, for example in the garden or while buzzing around the living room. However, that "annoying mosquito" is also simply important food for fish, birds, wasps and bats. The mosquito larvae live on algae; for example, the toxic blue-green algae is thus prevented. However, insect populations are under pressure from monoculture and pesticide use. That decline in biodiversity is a big problem for food chains, which we as humans are part of. So the insects are actually doing a very good job outside. In short, keep them there too: use screens and stop using insecticides.
Dènis van Loosbroek, General Manager at Unilux adds, "We therefore saw the opportunity to make ourselves heard once again during this fair. Back in 2020, we started the campaign around the theme 'Protect the Insects'. With this stand in Ghent, we once again gave new impetus to our message. And, of course, we hope that the specialist trade in the Netherlands will want to promote this message again in 2024."
Dènis explains that - within the framework of the footprint - Unilux also works locally as much as possible. "For example, we repair our screens in the factory in Boxtel and use as little and as sustainable packaging material as possible. Moreover, in 2024 we will take a further step by introducing the improved, quieter Plisséfit! This was a long-held wish of us and our dealers. Finally it has now been realized through a clever, patented, chain innovation: less rattling and smoother operation."
Dènis says that within the organization, much use is made of the feedback coming from the market, especially in terms of making the products better and more sustainable. The improved silent Plisséfit is a good example of this. "By adapting the chain and plastic parts with high-quality plastic materials, it has become a lot quieter. It opens and closes with less side noise. With this chain, the screen door also remains mosquito-sealed at the top and operates smoothly. Thus, this improved version of our successful pleated fit makes a perfect contribution to our company's ambition to maintain the ecological system: to enjoy nature even more, without rattling and... outside with more buzzing."
