Matter 1.0 is ready. The Connectivity Standards Alliance including companies such as Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung have realized their plan to provide a solution to the fragmented smart home world. "This will soon allow all Matter-compatible smart devices to work together in any smart home system, eliminating all complexity," said manager of engineering at Coulisse Bas Klein Tuente.
Thursday, Nov. 3, the official Matter launch event took place at the Capital C building in Amsterdam. The demo area featured smart window coverings with Coulisse's Eve MotionBlinds motors in action, along with other smart devices ready to work with Matter. They could be controlled via Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Apple Home.
Matter-certified smart devices can communicate with each other via WiFi or the newer protocol Thread. That makes smart homes faster and more responsive, Klein Tuente explained. "Not to mention much simpler installation and a universal language that stays local, in the user's home, without cloud dependency." Matter 1.0 can be applied to smart lights and fixtures, smart plugs and switches, smart thermostats and other HVAC controls, smart blinds, smart sensors, smart locks and media devices. "Matter opens up the world of smart homes in general and that of the smart window covering market in particular. Smart homes - and smart window coverings - are no longer the preserve of only smart home enthusiasts and experts, but accessible to all."
According to Klein Tuente, Eve MotionBlinds stands out from the rest and is the crème de la crème in smart window coverings. "First of all, it greatly simplifies the installation, setup and operation of smart window coverings in smart homes. Thanks to Thread and Matter, the motors can be very easily integrated into smart homes. Eve MotionBlinds operate without bridge, registration or cloud dependency, keeping all data indoors and 100% privacy is guaranteed. The rechargeable USB-C motors have an integrated battery, allowing for cable-free installation. Finally, the option of manual operation with a simple pull is a valuable addition, especially in smart homes."
Eve MotionBlinds will be available for blinds, Venetian blinds, honeycomb/plissé blinds, Roman blinds, and in 2023, curtains. "The smart motors, which currently already work with Apple Home, will receive free over-the-air firmware updates, after which they will also work with other Matter platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings," Klein Tuente said. "That makes Eve MotionBlinds the most future-proof motor for window coverings on the market. Ready for simpler smart homes, where all devices can communicate with each other."
