Innovative sliding systems bring light and space into modern homes

Also ideal for large glass facades and winter gardens

Recent years have seen the rebirth of sliding window systems. After all, today windows have become - as part of the design - stylish elements that contribute to an open and modern living environment. The German company Sunflex Aluminiumsysteme GmbH responds to this with their innovative solutions, such as the SF60 and SF80 sliding systems. These products combine aesthetics, energy efficiency and ease of use.

Modern sliding windows - or if you will, sliding doors - offer an abundance of light and a seamless transition between inside and outside. The outside world and the living room are inseparable. Dennis Schneider, managing director of Sunflex, explains: "Our sash windows are designed with a particularly slim profile. The visible parts of the sash are only 21 millimeters thick, and the center closure is 30 millimeters wide." This gives residents an unobstructed view and a sense of spaciousness. Unlike traditional fixed window solutions, these sliding windows can be fully opened, providing both ventilation and flexibility.

Energy efficiency and insulation

Energy efficiency - as far as Sunflex is concerned - is a major focus in contemporary architecture. Whereas single-glazing used to be the standard, the development of insulating glass has significantly increased the possibilities. The Sunflex SF80, with triple or even quadruple glazing, achieves an impressive thermal insulation value of 0.8 W/(m²K), making it suitable for so-called passive houses. The heat-insulated SF60 and the highly insulated SF80 sliding systems ensure that heat from solar rays is not lost, making them ideal for façade glazing and winter gardens. With glass thicknesses of up to 34 millimeters (SF60) or 54 millimeters (SF80) and optional steel reinforcements in the center closure, these systems are also resistant to strong wind loads and driving rain. As standard, they are equipped with mushroom locks for optimum sealing and, in combination with laminated safety glass, offer additional protection against burglary attempts."

"These systems are therefore ideal for large glass facades and winter gardens," Schneider said. In addition to excellent insulation, the systems also protect against extreme weather conditions such as heavy wind and driving rain, thanks in part to the robust glass thickness and steel reinforcements.

Comfort and accessibility

Modern technologies also make the use of sliding windows and sliding doors easier than ever. Thanks to smooth ball-bearing rollers, even heavy windows weighing up to 800 kilograms can be moved back and forth effortlessly. In addition, an automatic "carry function" ensures that when one window is closed, the other automatically moves with it. Sunflex has also paid great attention to accessibility when manufacturing sliding doors: "The sliding rails fully integrated into the floor provide a barrier-free passage to a terrace or balcony, for example," says Schneider. "This makes the systems not only practical, but also suitable for a wide range of applications."
