Father Marco and son Samuele Lombardini, who run Plastex, spoke fervently at R+T about the company's new products. Their latest thermoplastic solution is BoBa+, intended for attaching the fabric to the bottom rail of a screen.
"Traditionally, fabrics are finished with a seam," Marco says. "The end of the fabric is folded over to accommodate a tendon and then welded. The welded seam remains visible above the bottom rail, which is less attractive. In addition, stresses on the fabric, temperature fluctuations and UV radiation can cause wrinkles in the fabric. The conventional method also requires more effort from installers. In contrast, BoBa+ - in combination with AVIASTA - can reduce installation time by about 40%."
With the BoBa+ profile in his hands, Marco Lombardini shows that by using it, no seam is visible anymore. The fabric is welded or sewn to the profile, which is then slid into the bottom rail. "It is not folded over, which saves four to five inches of fabric. In addition, the BoBa+ system is significantly faster and can be welded with the same parameters as AVIASTA, the profile to attach the fabric to the motor tube. The fabric is properly tensioned and no seam is visible. Another advantage is that the profiles are delivered in rolls, with all the logistical advantages that come with it."
