Marquesas Netherlands inaugurates powder coating plant

To govern is to foresee, simple as that. But sometimes that requires an investment. Over the past year, Johan Hol and Aart van den Berg, the director-owners of Markiezen Netherlands, have purchased an advanced powder coating installation and undergone the corresponding training. "Looking ahead to 2023, the installation of this machine is a good strategic move for us," says Hol. 

Everyone will agree on the usefulness of powder coating. The electrostatic painting process, in which negatively charged powder is sprayed onto a product with compressed air, which is then "baked" onto the surface of that product, provides protection against external influences. The result is that, for example, awning systems - and thus awnings - remain beautiful for longer and have a longer life. After all, a good powder coating protects a product from the effects of weathering, for example. 

"We used to outsource all our powder coating work," Hol and Van den Berg explain. "Now we choose to direct it ourselves. We have expanded our range to include more than 500 items, such as angle lines, tubes, t-profiles and flat bar. We supply these products at any desired length and, of course, by powder coating them in the desired color. We give our dealers a special discount on these. Partly because we cut everything to size ourselves, we also do not have to charge the customer for residual material. That can be used again for the next project."

"By commissioning our own powder coating plant, we not only shorten our delivery times because we can now move faster. After all, we are no longer dependent on external parties. A second advantage is that we can now suffice with smaller stocks," said Hol and Van den Berg. "In addition, we are now able to offer a larger number of less-common colors at an interesting price." 

"Although we made this investment with the idea of using the powder coating installation for our own production, we have since become convinced that we can also start offering powder coating as a service for other parties," say Hol and Van den Berg. "Even if the products to be powder coated are not specifically intended for awnings, but are used for other awning products, for example." 

Of course, by now they at Marquesas Netherlands have formed a picture of the market in the new year. "We suspect that our industry may well experience some economic headwinds in 2023. Then it is nice when the market knows that there is a party that - especially in the field of awnings - has almost the entire process under its own control. That is, not only the construction of complete awnings, but also the production of profiles and powder coating in a color of your choice. This obviously provides our customers with many advantages. We therefore expect that our new, state-of-the-art powder coating plant and the supply of profiles will enable us to further strengthen our market position."
