A covered patio in half a day. Is that possible?

Yes, you can. Sun protection expert Harol makes it possible based on its customized solutions and years of expertise in natural cooling. Recently, Harol installed a retractable slat roof in the roof of the terrace at their new home for singer Jaap Reesema and his wife Kim Kötter. The installation went very quickly.

The new home was completely remodeled and has a unique design, which is why a 100% custom patio solution was chosen. This started with a good conversation on site by one of the Harol specialists. Harol has built up a large network of installers: specialist companies with in-depth knowledge that specialize in sun protection, roller shutters as well as patio covers and pergolas. "In order to create the perfect patio solution, we naturally wanted to know what the customer's wishes were. This includes how people want to integrate the outdoors into their lives," says Joris Draelants, Technical Director of Harol. "Jaap and Kim had the desire to create an atmospheric, shaded area combined with a heated terrace. In addition, maximum light in the house was a requirement. The Brera model turned out to be the perfect solution." 

"Our specialists really think along with the end customer. That is why we advocate working closely with the architect or contractor during a renovation or new construction. That way we can be sure that the decking solution fits in well with the house," explains Joris Draelants. For Jaap and Kim's Brera slat roof, Harol installers also sat around the drawing board with the home's architect. Together they discussed and coordinated aspects such as the substrate, roof structure, anchoring and roof finish. In the end, they chose to build the slat roof into the roof of the patio. This way it perfectly matches the architecture of the house. Moreover, the slat roof can slide open for maximum light during less sunny periods. 

"Water drainage was also discussed with the architect," says Joris Draelants. "This was an integrated solution. So there are no footings. As a result, we linked the water drainage to the drainage of the roof. In consultation with the architect, the drainage of the slatted roof was incorporated invisibly into the roof structure. In this way we achieved an optimal result." 

Because of the intensive cooperation between the Harol installers and the home's architect, the installation of the slat roof at Jaap and Kim's house went quickly. Assembling the frame, hoisting and anchoring the slat roof, installing the slats, adjusting the system and finishing, the professional installers performed within a few hours. "When the preparation is good, even a custom terrace solution can be installed within a few hours!" concludes Joris Draelants.
