The company heroal - Johann Henkenjohann GmbH & Co. KG is setting new standards in corner shading with the heroal VS Z corner solution. The innovative sun protection system not only impresses with its functionality, but also with its outstanding design: after the specialist for aluminum systems was already awarded the R+T Innovationspreis in 2024, in 2025 it now also received the prestigious German Design Award in the "Excellent Product Design" category.
Those who opt for large glass surfaces in the corner area attach particular importance to a bright, elegant look, a light-filled interior and a high-quality appearance - in which case the blinds should not detract from the aesthetic effect.
The textile sun protection system heroal VS Z corner solution convinced the German Design Award jury with its successful combination of innovative sun protection and sophisticated design. "The zipscreen for all-glass corners impresses with its elegant solution for solar protection in demanding architectural conditions. The independent control of the screen fabric allows flexible adaptation to individual needs and impresses with its clear functionality and aesthetic integration into modern buildings," said the jury.
At heroal, they are delighted with this new award. Alexander Schiller, product manager for heroal blinds systems, explains: "With the heroal VS Z corner solution, we have developed a system that fits the zeitgeist. It not only offers energy-efficient and sustainable sun protection, but can also be aesthetically integrated into modern building architecture. We have paid particular attention to the flexible controls, diverse design options and many well thought-out construction details, which offer planners, processors and users alike optimum functionality and maximum comfort."
The heroal VS Z corner solution consists of two screen cloths with zip guides on the sides and a patented stainless steel cable guide in the corner area and provides effective shading in fully glazed corners, for example. The individual bottom frames of the screens are cleverly integrated into just one cable guide. This allows the screens to be operated independently and variably adjusted to the position of the sun. Each screen fabric can cover an area of up to 9 square meters. To provide not only protection from glare, glare and heat but also protection from insects, the system can be combined with insect-resistant doors or tension windows using spacer profiles and matching decorative caps. In addition to the functional advantages, the heroal VS Z corner solution offers numerous aesthetic options. When selecting the screen fabric, some 250 textiles are available as standard, from semi-transparent for daylight in the building to opaque for almost complete blackout. When not in use, the screen fabric disappears into the heroal surface-mounted box system (sizes 105 and 125 mm). The stainless steel cable guide ensures a subtle connection of the fabrics in the corner area. The sophisticated design is accentuated by the particularly narrow screen guide rails of only 25 millimeters on the side. If desired, the guide rails and cabinet system can be completely incorporated into the plaster. Finishing the extruded parts with the highly weather-resistant heroal hwr powder coating offers additional design possibilities.
The German Design Award is the internationally renowned prize of the German Design Council and has been awarded annually since 2012. In a comprehensive nomination process, products and communication designs that clearly stand out from the competition in terms of design quality are invited to enter the competition by expert committees of the German Design Council. From all participants, winners are selected by a jury of design experts from business, education, science and the design industry.
