Continuity as the core of the SELVE philosophy
Continuous product range: SELVE offers its drives in three series, as shown by managing director Andreas Böck (right) and product manager Tino Braumann (left). The different types of drives are available in four versions: wired, wireless, as an SMI version and in a short version. Each type always uses the same settings.

Continuity as the core of the SELVE philosophy

What is already very comprehensive is complemented even further. Whether roller shutters, awnings, zipper screens or solutions for emergency openings ... SELVE has the right type of drive for every application. From now on, SELVE motors of the smallest series (BR 1) are also equipped with plug-in connection cables. "With this, we again meet the wishes and needs of our customers," emphasizes Andreas Böck, managing director of SELVE. "We approach all new and further developments in the same holistic way and so we always look at our product range as a whole."

SELVE's philosophy is based on continuity, both in terms of technology and the general construction of drive systems. In addition to series 2 motors, which are the most popular on the market, the German company from Lüdenscheid also offers a smaller (BR 1) and a larger (BR 3) series. "We want to complement the range consistently," explains Andreas Böck. "Therefore, we offer our customers optimal solutions for all installations, applications and screens."

However different the specific application areas of the various electronic drives may be, "each type always follows the same philosophy in terms of operation and functions," SELVE's managing director emphasizes.

More flexibility in product configuration. This is what product manager Tino Braumann sees as the big advantage of the plug-in connection cable, which SELVE is now also rolling out for the series 1. The philosophy of continuity in operation and functions also characterizes the motor types in the small series.

This applies, for example, to the SE Pro (for roller shutters), the SEM Plus (for awnings) and the SEZ (for zipper screens). "These are all consistently offered by us in four versions: wired, wireless, as an SMI version and in a special short version. Depending on the drive type, they are always set up completely identically," says Andreas Böck, emphasizing the major plus point. This offers our business customers a "high degree of operating reliability," adds Tino Braumann, product manager for drive technology. Following the motto "keep it simple," SELVE relies not only on identical setup logic, but also on absolutely identical functionality. "Once you know how to commission a particular motor type, you can do the same with any other series and version - whether it is controlled wirelessly, via SMI or with cables," says Andreas Böck.

This is the core of the SELVE philosophy and characterizes our comprehensive drive range. All the necessary know-how is available in Lüdenscheid. To continuously supplement our product portfolio, we make use of our many years of expertise. For example, the electronic development department has been under the management of Dr. Jost Weiper for more than twenty years. For product changes and innovative new concepts, he is supported by skilled employees who also have many years of experience. "Our core competence at SELVE is the fully in-house development of hardware and software for electronic drives," emphasizes the managing director. This provides a significant competitive advantage. "We can adapt our drive technology to specific customer requirements at any time, and our lean production allows us to produce quickly and flexibly."

Suitable for any application

"In all new and further developments, we start from the end point, that is, from the perspective of the specialist companies. We focus precisely on the new requirements of our customers and what they specifically need," says Andreas Böck. SELVE's specialist partners appreciate the great variety that results. "Our customers say that we indeed offer products for all situations. If we enter our drives in a matrix with different types of applications for roller shutters or awnings, there can be crosses everywhere." Now a cross can also be put in the continuity in technical details regarding the plug-in connection cable for the smallest motor series.

This fits and makes mounting easier: thanks to the plug-in motor cable, longer cables or other connections, such as Hirschmann plugs, can now also be easily attached to smaller drives. From now on, all BR 1 wireless drives (as shown here with green marking on the motor head) have an internal antenna.

What has proven successful in practice with the BR 2 is now also being rolled out for the BR 1. "The pluggable cable offers our customers more flexibility in product configuration," explains Tino Braumann. This means that even with smaller drives it is now easier to fit longer cables or other connections, such as Hirschmann plugs. Not only does setting up the corresponding motor types follow the same operating philosophy, but the small series also includes powerful and well thought-out functions. "So our customers do not have to be satisfied with less and benefit from the same functions," emphasizes the product manager. For example, the SEE, SE Pro and SEZ have integrated functions such as obstacle detection in upward and downward directions and overload protection. "Our internal development and construction team has done a great job by incorporating a movable motor head even in the small series," says Andreas Böck. In practice, this means that all automatic adjustment and protection functions are included in the BR 1, both for the shutter drive SE Pro and for the ride systems SEZ.

Further range expansion

The drive range, designed for all possible applications and requirements, is complemented by special solutions for the 2nd escape and rescue route, such as the plug & play drive SEE-NHK with emergency crank. Also in this area, SELVE is further expanding its product portfolio: at the R+T fair, the SEZ-NHK with a patented freewheel will be presented. With this market innovation, motorized zipper shutters can be used for the 2nd escape and rescue route for the first time.

Another innovation concerns the "SELVE Intelligence (SI)" drive generation, which can raise and lower shutters and blinds particularly quietly and at variable speeds. Despite being a completely new motor concept, the Lüdenscheid-based company remains true to its consistent setting philosophy here as well. With "Up - Down - Ready," the new wireless SI Pro-com drive follows the familiar SE Pro setting logic. Also included again are the proven and reliable SELVE functions, such as obstacle detection and overload protection. For the new SI generation, the same continuity should be implemented in the future as with all previous drives. Continuous further development is and remains an important driving force for SELVE: "Our business customers can surely look forward to the next innovations from Lüdenscheid," Andreas Böck concludes.
