ROMA was not the first awning manufacturer to enter the screen market. It was, however, the first German company to get serious about solar shading. The focus of the giant headquartered in Burgau was originally on shutters and exterior blinds. But ROMA has the size, the clout and the ambition to finish strong even as a later starter, and so ROMA's screens have now firmly established themselves in the sun protection market. A logical next step is now the expansion of the offer with built-in zipscreens.
The Netherlands is a country of preconstruction. Here, the cabinets of roller shutters, exterior blinds and screens are usually attached óto the wall. ROMA, of course, has screens in its assortment that fit this. But homeland Germany - and also Belgium - are countries where much more installation takes place. Hence, with the PURO 2 XR-zip and PURO 2 XRK-zip, ROMA has added two new recessed screens to its zipSCREEN product range. "They are true recessed screens," says ROMA Benelux director Toon van Osta. "Most options on the market are not, because they do not have the insulation values of the PURO 2 screens."
The recessed screens are available as what ROMA calls left- and right-rollers. In the left-rolling version, the bottom frame runs quite close - at 12 mm - along the frame. In the right-rolling version, the screen remains at a greater distance from the frame and glass. "On the Belgian market, for example, there is often a need for extra space for insert screens," says Van Osta. "Then the right-rolling version is ideally suited because that screen offers that extra space." Incidentally, the ROMA built-in screens - apart from the variant with the 61 mm guide - can also be equipped with an integrated ROMA insect roller screen, making separate insect screens unnecessary.
ROMA offers the recessed screens in three
performances to:
An XRK version of each of these three versions is also available. These are used when the windows are installed behind impact. "This way of mounting is standard in Belgium and we hope it will be in the future in the Netherlands as well," says Toon van Osta. "This is because it makes it much easier to install the frame-mounted box of an awning product."
In versions 2 and 3 from the above overview, the bottom rail disappears completely into the case when the screen is fully rolled up. In the version with the narrower guide, the bottom rail extends at least 12 mm below the case. The guides are always 3 mm narrower, on both sides, than the outside of the casement.
The PURO 2XR-zip with the 36 x 132 mm or 36 x 142 mm guides can be designed in such a way that the screen cassette can be clicked in very easily to allow easy assembly. "Installers often complain about the large weight of the ROMA zipSCREEN, the result of the fact that all parts and components are solid and heavy, but with this flush-mounted variant, this need not be a problem," Van Osta believes.
The version 3 of the PURO 2XR-zip with the 36 x 142 mm guide is the topper in the range. It is the version for French balconies equipped with the all-glass fall-through guard or parapet. This special glass parapet has been presented in Z&R before, as it already existed for ROMA's shutters and exterior blinds. And so now also to be used in combination with a zipscreen. The glass plate can be installed after the installation of the additional guide and shutter or exterior blind - and stucco if necessary. This also means that the plate can be changed in case of any damage, without having to dismantle the screen. Understandably, the security of a French balcony must meet strict safety standards and is therefore certified.
Ventilation and night ventilation are an increasingly important issue in view of the increasing risk of overheating in homes and buildings, also notes Toon van Osta. "There is an increasing demand for it. Ventilation grilles can therefore always be installed in PURO 2 cabinets to allow air exchange - and in the case of night ventilation, cooling - of the rooms behind." ■
