One of the most striking developments in the industry is to equip sun protection products with battery motors with solar panels. This trend has not gone unnoticed by Husol in Genemuiden either. The family business recently started offering brand-new solar variants for both screens and roller shutters. Co-owner Peter van der Kamp explains.
As an independent Dutch manufacturer of sun protection and roller shutters that can boast a long history, Husol has a name to uphold. Central to the way the Genemuiden-based company works is the control over the production process. Husol has its own production department. All standard fabric colors are in stock. The casing of the screens is also available from stock in twelve standard colors. "Ever since 1966, we have tried to distinguish ourselves as a progressive company," says Peter van der Kamp. In that regard, Husol is not letting itself go unchallenged in 2023 either. For example, according to Van der Kamp, there is a lot of news under the sun in the area of controlling blinds with a battery motor. "For the record, we already had wireless solar screens in our program, but until recently Somfy's solar motors were only available in the control variant RTS, Radio Technologie Somfy®. But as of today, we also supply solar screens with the brand new io control system, which is fully compatible with the Somfy Smart Home system."
"The big difference between the two wireless control systems is that RTS is a 1-way communication system, while io is a 2-way system," explains Van der Kamp. "The big advantage of this is that you can, for example, give a command to a screen to close and then you also get feedback that it is really closed and the product is not obstructed by an obstacle, for example. So thanks to the 2-way system, you get feedback on the exact position of the blinds. By the way, we are marketing this latest generation screen from heroal as the Sunea io solar, as the successor to the Sunea RTS solar."
Also in the field of roller shutters, Husol introduced a novelty at the beginning of this year. "The RS100 io motor, the whisper-quiet roller shutter motor from Somfy that has been on the market for years, is now also available in a wireless solar version. The RS100 solar is primarily intended for roller shutters, but can also be used with larger-sized screens if necessary." Van der Kamp emphasizes that Husol did not take an overnight decision when deciding to include solar screen shutters and solar roller shutters in its program. "For us it was paramount that we would only apply these battery solutions with solar panels if we could guarantee that the quality of our products would be as high as with wired motors. Fortunately, that has turned out to be the case."
Just as it applies to the motors, Husol does not compromise on quality with the screens. "This is exactly why we have been working with heroal products for over thirty years," says Van der Kamp. "Because they are wind-resistant, these screens are the ideal solution for tall buildings or locations with high winds. The fiberglass cloth, especially the variant with a light transmission of 1%, is often used in office buildings; this to prevent annoying glare from sunlight on digiboards and computer screens. And if mounted correctly so that the fabric fits closely to the lower lintel or windowsill, a screen can also serve well as insect protection."
