Berner Torantriebe - simply Berner in practice - is best known to Z&R readers for its garage door operators and controls. In addition, the company also has operators and controls for commercial doors. But Berner's product range is broader. To illustrate that, Berner presents here a product that they will also show at the R+T: mobile pollers!
Nice and Berlin 2016, London and Barcelona 2017, a carnival parade in Hesse 2020, again and again cars are used for attacks. Proper protection against such acts of terrorism is a top priority for organizers of large-scale events. The challenge is that the systems used must be simultaneously flexible and efficient.
Berner has now introduced a mobile poller system. Called SafetyGuard 450TR, it can help protect driveways to and events outdoors. Motor vehicles - tests have shown - can no longer breach the barrier formed by the pollers, regardless of which side or angle they encounter the barrier from.
One of the main features of the system is the octagonal base plate with serrated edge. When a vehicle collides with the poller, it tilts forward. The base plate automatically automatically hooks into the asphalt and into the colliding vehicle, which is thus stopped and cannot move any further. SafetyGuard is certified, among other things, according to the technical guidelines the German police. In this strict certification, a poller stopped and rendered a 7.5-ton truck uncontrollable in a collision from angles of 90° and 45° on a wet road surface.
The poller also offers a number of other advantages. Thanks to its high weight of 450 kg, the SafetyGuard is resistant to vandalism and sabotage. This means that it can also be used for long-term barriers, for example for construction sites or Christmas markets. Individual installation without connection - ideally at a distance of 1.20 m - means that escape routes are maintained and accessibility for cyclists, wheelchair users or baby carriages, for example, is guaranteed. Flexible set-up options and simple operation mean that passage for emergency services or supplies remains possible. The so-called SG-Mover was designed for this purpose. The heavy SafetyGuard can be easily moved using a transport device screwed into the cover of the poller.
Unlike large concrete barriers, the inconspicuous design of the pollers does not deter event visitors. Pedestrians are barely inconvenienced.
For use as fencing at construction sites, adapters for lighting can be integrated. For use as long-term barriers, the design of the pollers allows them to be used as advertising media. It is also conceivable to use the SafetyGuard pollers in addition to barriers as an additional barrier for parking lots during larger events.
"With the SafetyGuard 450TR, we have added a system to our product range that, thanks to its great flexibility and proven security, is of interest to anyone responsible for the security of large events," said Berner Managing Director Frank Kiefer. "The SafetyGuard thus joins a range of access control systems from Berner Torantriebe that are indispensable for controlled access as well as security."
