"In a theme of Horeca canopies and awnings, Schlappi Awnings cannot be missing, of course!", laughs Dennis Schoormans. If anyone is convinced of the many advantages of the awning, it's him. Schoormans has been the owner of Schlappi Marquees factory in Tilburg since 2018. "In cooperation with our dealers, we have been able to realize many beautiful awning projects in recent years," he says. "That Schlappi is a strong name I already knew when I took over the company six years ago, but that it is so strong, even I had underestimated that!"
"When things get difficult or complex, Tilburg is the place to be. Schlappi Marquees always had that reputation, and we have worked hard in recent years to build on it," Schoormans continues. "Our slogan is not for nothing 'THE quality standard for awnings since 1986'. Of course, we also do plenty and enjoy doing 'ordinary' projects, but it's precisely when it gets complex that we enjoy it extra!"
A beautiful project Schlappi completed not long ago are awnings for hotel De Draak in downtown Bergen op Zoom. "A very old monumental building, built in 1397! Hotel de Draak is the oldest hotel in the Netherlands," said Schoormans. The owner wanted blinds for the windows to increase comfort for guests in the hotel rooms. Initially, his choice had fallen on markisolettes or drop shades. Because the fabric first drops down vertically and then drops out, he thought it would be the most suitable sun protection solution for his hotel.
"When I saw the hotel I knew immediately: awnings must come here!" says Schoormans. "Precisely because of the appearance of the building. With that in mind, we created a visualization that gave a perfect picture of what the hotel would look like with awnings. You get a clear picture of the shadow lines and of the facade from different angles."
When a property is a monument, visualizations are also important for municipalities because they can then see that awnings do not disturb the facade appearance. For its Select Dealers, Schlappi Marquees makes such a visualization free of charge. When the owner of De Draak saw the visualization, he abandoned his original idea and opted for awnings. "Making visualizations is something we do more and more often," Schoormans said. "And to the satisfaction of our dealers and clients, because it works!"
In the end, the owner of Hotel De Draak showed himself very happy with the choice made. It has become exactly as he had already seen on the visualization and the result fully meets his expectations. For Schlappi Marquees and its dealer Van Beeck from Bergen op Zoom it has become a valuable reference project.
For Dennis Schoormans, The Dragon is also a fine example of a project where the intensive cooperation between Schlappi Marquees and the dealer becomes clear. "We build the awnings, but the work of the dealer in terms of installation and customer support is of course just as important, and it is particularly pleasant to go through the entire process, from bringing in the order to realization, together with the dealer."
Schlappi Marquees made awnings in a very daring design for restaurant Nannes in Hilversum. Namely, the fabric consists of cloths with different colors and designs that have been put together like a kind of patchwork. It will be clear that the complexity of this work demanded a few things from the craftsmanship of the makers of Schlappi Marquees. "But they succeeded!", observes Dennis Schoormans not without pride. "With very special awnings as a result."
Awning fabric lasts an average of ten years, but the frame of an awning has a lifespan of at least twenty years. It therefore pays to reupholster an awning. Schlappi Marquees fully promotes reupholstery to its dealers. The end customer receives, without having to worry about it, an awning with a brand new fabric that will last for another ten years. Advantageous for the customer and good for the environment because savings are made on wood and/or aluminum.
Schlappi Marquees also produces marquees with integrated LED lighting. It is an innovation that the company has developed in-house. This lighting enables hospitality entrepreneurs to extend terrace time and - also because the light is dimmable - create atmosphere on their terraces at minimal energy costs.
The flounce of an awning can now also be equipped with LED lighting by Schlappi Awnings, an innovation that has been worked on for two years. For example, a company name, logo or slogan is thus highlighted in the dark and thus more visible.
