Harol participates in Global Shading Day 2024
On Thursday, March 21, we not only celebrate the start of spring, but it is also Global Shading Day again: a day when the positive benefits of sun protection are highlighted. Sun protection expert Harol is also participating in this special day this year. Together with ES-SO, the umbrella organization of the European sun protection industry, Harol is committed to making both consumers and policymakers aware of the numerous benefits outdoor sun protection brings in terms of home comfort, energy savings and the positive impact on the environment.
During the week of March 21, local agencies, awning manufacturers and
-distributors across Europe various events and activities to promote Global Shading Day. Harol is drawing attention to this day through a social media campaign and the awning expert is calling on its dealers to also participate by joining the online campaign, keeping the showrooms open extra long on March 21 and handing out special Global Shading Day flyers to customers.
Global Shading Day was created to draw attention to the important role of shading in the fight against global warming. And it is much needed. Scientific research by Guidehouse shows that using smart outdoor solar shading can keep buildings 5 to 10 degrees cooler in the summer months. By installing blinds instead of using active cooling such as air conditioning systems, we can save up to 60% of energy and reduce CO2-emissions by 100 million tons by 2050.
"At Harol, we are convinced of the numerous advantages that natural cooling through solar shading has to offer. Our tagline is not for nothing: ''We believe in natural cooling', says Isabelle Wintmolders, Marketing Manager of Harol and Chair MarCom of ES-SO. "In recent years, the problem of overheating in homes has been growing. Often energy-consuming air conditioning systems are used to combat the heat. This is something we want to change. Passive cooling such as shading is much more energy efficient. Shading blocks heat before it enters the home and keeps the home naturally cool. We continue to actively work to get this message across to the general public. It would be a logical step to integrate solar shading into the construction of buildings by default and thus make a sustainable contribution to protecting the environment. Global Shading Day is a great initiative to draw attention to the importance of solar shading."
