What do you do when you consciously build a very energy-efficient home, but later find yourself suffering from overheating due to the increasingly hot summers? It happened to Flemish TV presenter Dina Tersago, who then knocked on the door of Harol, a specialist in natural cooling. "We only regret one thing," she says. "And that is that we didn't opt for outdoor blinds right away during construction. Fortunately, Harol was able to easily install that afterwards." As a result, Dina Tersago has now been a proud Harol ambassador for two years.
When building their energy-neutral home in 2014, Dina Tersago and her partner opted for very low energy levels with as much passive cooling as possible. "Because of our choices in terms of insulation, it stays comfortable inside for quite a long time, but the downside is that heat has difficulty leaving the home," Tersago said. "Looking for a sustainable solution to that problem, we came to Harol."
Annick Draelants, CEO of Harol, joins the conversation. "Dina's story is certainly not unique. In summer, many homes suffer from the thermo effect: the better insulated, the greater the effect. Once heated, homes are barely coolable. The most sustainable way to keep homes cool and healthy is to use blinds. With these, you block the sun before it enters. We call this "natural cooling. Traditionally, this has been our mission. Now and in the future it is more than ever on the agenda."
At Dina Tersago's home, Harol chose, among other things, to install front screens. "Screens block the sun as much as possible before the heat enters," says Annick Draelants. "This reduces the risk of overheating and keeps indoor temperatures under control even in the summer. Our screens are durable. Their high quality means they last for years. Moreover, Harol installers can easily retrofit the blinds without affecting the appearance of the home. Thanks to our extensive color selection, the screens can be seamlessly integrated into the facade."
In April, Harol will launch its latest innovation in the field of frontage screens: the Coolscreen Solar. "A compact fabric awning that runs on 100% solar energy. This product stands for premium quality and durable design. This makes it a perfect solution when people want to cool their homes naturally. Enjoy ultimate comfort, courtesy of the sun!"
Dina Tersago is not the only one enthusiastic about Harol's sustainable solutions, concludes Annick Draelants. "Singer Jaap Reesema is a fan of Harol's pergolas (see the previous edition of trade magazine Z&R, ed.). He recently had a unique Brera sliding slat roof installed at his new home. As far as we are concerned, it is no coincidence that Dina and Jaap chose Harol. Both find it important that Harol is a player with production in its own region. The fact that we generate our energy 100% through our own windmill is also an aspect that counted for both of them in their choice."
